Responsibilities

The Volunteers Committee Manager works with the Membership Manager and the President to match new volunteers to open positions on the Administrative Council and the committees. This will also include approaching new members to encourage them to build their portfolios through volunteering for the chapter. In addition, the Volunteers Committee Manager will work with the Public Relations Manager to encourage volunteers from the chapter to help with external community services.

The Volunteers Committee recruits volunteers for committees and chapter offices. The committee matches volunteers to tasks according to their interests and amount of time they are willing to give, maintains a database of on-call chapter members who work on different projects on an as-needed basis, and encourages committee managers to use volunteers and train them for future leadership roles. Volunteers are on-call chapter members who work on different projects on an as-needed basis.

  • In November or December, develop a budget for planned projects for the year ahead.
  • Guide members of the committee so that all committee duties are fulfilled.
  • Develop and distribute a contact list of committee members and their roles.
  • Recruit volunteers on a one-on-one basis (either over the phone or in person).
  • Set a goal to meet five members you didn't know before each meeting and ask the Administrative Council to do the same.
  • Conduct regular volunteer orientation and training sessions (with the Membership manager) and include all committee managers. Send out email reminders the week of the session.
  • Publicize open volunteer positions in the website, social media venues, and monthly events and meetings.
  • Answer queries from members and prospective members about chapter volunteer activities.
  • Explain to all members, when recruiting, what is expected of them and steer them towards the online Chapter Volunteer Job Descriptions.
  • Try to match volunteers’ interests with the needs of the chapter.
  • Offer training during the transition of committee managers, whenever possible.
  • Offer volunteers one-time only or on-call tasks if time is a problem. Set up a volunteer sub-committee for volunteers who can work on an on-call or one-time-only basis.
  • Work with the Hospitality committee to organize an annual "Thank You" or "Volunteer Appreciation" party and include prizes or some form of recognition.

Monthly Tasks: Submit a status report email to the President regarding all current and upcoming committee activities including expenses and funding requests.

Experience and Skills

  • WordPress.org 6.1.1+ Text Editor enough to post announcements
  • Experience working with or willing to learn and use online project management tools such as Basecamp
  • Ability to lead a team and to work on a team
  • Previous experience managing a committee is a plus
  • Good time management
  • Strong communication / interpersonal skills
  • An outgoing and friendly personality
  • Good organizational skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and able to identify and report problems with meeting those deadlines; willing to ask for help when needed
