Job Description
Committee affiliation: Bylaws
The Bylaws Committee monitors the chapter's adherence to the Bylaws, reviews the descriptions of the duties and responsibilities of the chapter officers and other members of the Administrative Council, and makes recommendations for modifications needed to the Bylaws and Standard Operating Procedures if procedures or election rules are changed. If changes are needed, the Bylaws Committee prepares proposed changes for review by chapter officers (and chapter members if some sections need their approval); coordinates updates, review, and Society approval with the Bylaws Advisor in the Society office.
Responsibilities
- In November or December, develop a budget for planned projects for the year ahead (a sample budget is available).
- Guide members of the committee so that all committee duties are fulfilled.
- Develop and distribute a contact list of committee members and their roles.
- Review existing Chapter Bylaws documentation.
- Review current STC Bylaws requirements for chapters.
- Meet with committee members to update the bylaws.
- Submit a monthly status report by email to the President and Vice-President (or post to the Admin Council Group's monthly status reports files) regarding all current and upcoming committee activities.
- Prepare revised Bylaws or list of suggested changes for review by chapter officers and coordinate the review process.
- Incorporate approved changes.
- Review and approval by the Chapter Bylaws Advisor in the Society Office:
- If the changes are to sections that do not need to be sent to chapter members for approval:
- Submit the new bylaws to the Bylaws Advisor in the Society office or CAC for their review and approval.
- Incorporate approved changes if needed.
- Send a copy of the final version to the Society office.
- Provide the PDF file to the Web divas to be added to the website and the blog.
- Announce the new bylaws on the blog.
- If the changes are to sections that do need to be sent to chapter members for approval:
- Prepare a list of proposed changes for the election ballot when chapter members vote for new officers.
- Prepare review draft containing the approved changes as needed.
- Submit the new bylaws to the Bylaws Advisor in the Society office or CAC for their review and approval.
- Incorporate approved changes if needed.
- Send a copy of the final version to the Society office.
- Provide the PDF file to the Web divas to be added to the website and the blog.
- Announce the new chapter bylaws on the STC WDCB chapter's website and social media accounts.
- If the changes are to sections that do not need to be sent to chapter members for approval:
Experience and Skills
- Knowledge and experience with the STC Bylaws requirements for chapters
- Familiarity with Facebook and Twitter use
- Familiarity with LinkedIn and other social media outlets
- WordPress.org 6.1.1+ Text Editor enough to post announcements
- Experience working with or willing to learn and use online project management tools such as Basecamp
- Ability to post status updates to social meda, the website, or to the administrative council
- Ability to lead a team and to work on a team
- Previous experience managing a committee is a plus
- Good time management
- Strong communication / interpersonal skills
- An outgoing and friendly personality
- Good organizational skills
- Able to meet deadlines and able to identify and report problems with meeting those deadlines; willing to ask for help when needed

- Email address (Google is preferred for working with Google calendar, Basecamp, and other tools)
- Word processing software
- HTML / CSS / PHP text editor
