Tavia's experience includes working in the IT industry in project management, business development, and technical communication. Some of her professional interests include mediation, small business development, and immigration advocacy, especially her volunteer work assisting refugee claimants.
During her service to the STC WDCB chapter, Tavia was the president in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 chapter years. In both years, the chapter was awarded the Platinum Chapter Achievement Award (CAA), which is the highest STC community award distinction. During those years, she also served as the Professional Development Director, creating and then launching the TechComm Global MasterClass Series, which was awarded the 2021 STC Pacesetter Award. While serving as STC WDCB's first vice-president in 2018-2019 and second vice-president in 2017-2018, Tavia served as the chapter's competition manager. On the international STC level, Tavia served on the STC Community Affairs Committee (CAC) as a member of the Outreach Team in 2017-2018 and as the Student Outreach Director in 2018-2019. Tavia was awarded the 2021 STC Distinguished Service Award for Students (DSAS).
Outside of STC, Tavia is a professional development committee member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, and is an active member of the Oxford University Press Student Law Panel. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and enjoys mentoring youth, spending time with her loved ones, and sports.
